River Classifications CLASS I-V
Class I - Easy - Waves small, passages clear, with
no serious obstacles.
Class II - Moderate - Rapids of little difficulty,
moderate waves with clear passages.
Class III - Difficult - Numerous waves that are sometimes
irregular; rocks; rapids with narrow but clear passages.
Class IV - Very Difficult - Long rapids; waves are
powerful and irregular; precise and powerful maneuvering
is required.
Class V - Extremely Difficult - Somewhat continuous,
long and violent rapids, extremely obstructed channels;
big drops; steep gradient; previous paddling experience
is recommended.
